taco bell dog

All good things must come to an end, even if it comes in the size of a tiny dog from the city of Chihuahua, Mexico. According to news:
LOS ANGELES—Gidget the Chihuahua, the bug-eyed, big-eared star of 1990s Taco Bell commercials who was a diva on and off the screen, has died. She was 15.

Gidget suffered a massive stroke late Tuesday night at her trainer’s home in Santa Clarita and had to be euthanized, said Karin McElhatton, owner of Studio Animal Services in Castaic, which owned the dog.

What a sad day for dogs and dog lovers. *sniff sniff*

Here’s a media tribute to the most famous Chihuahua on face of the earth:

It’s been some time since my last update and I’d have to say that I can no longer praise my dogs for good behavior while we’re away from the apartment.

Sigh. Pee pee in every corner AND on our bed is completely unacceptable. Coming home late at night having to clean up their mess was not fun at all and to think that they learned their lessons from us spanking them.

I couldn’t help but laugh when all three hid in the closet, but at the same time my heart softened when I looked at Cocoa and he would not budge even when I told him it was okay to come out. Before the closet, Lucky did an army move hiding behind the television. Brownie ran behind the coffee table and Cocoa dodged underneath the dining table. Comical dogs indeed. Sometimes three dogs are definitely a handful. A neighbor called out to me the other day asking if I wanted another one. Very funny, mister.

Anyway, I’m trying to figure out how to make a gate to keep them in the kitchen area while creating a pee area as well. If only those things weren’t so expensive. How do other folks with dogs in their apartment deal with the peeing and pooping situation? Anyone have any ideas?

Well Adjusted Doggies

img_7256We recently moved to SoCal and our doggies are already pretty comfy with their surroundings. Although they were quite antsy during the drive down, they did a great job holding their pee till our single rest stop. Good job, boys! I was afraid Brownie would yack, but he didn’t :)

My mom is still concerned that they’ll pee and poop while we’re gone, but unlike their behavior at my Parent’s, they’re superly well-house trained with us. I’m not so sure why. I’ll just guess that my parents don’t give them enough time to pee and poop before closing the doors. Anyway, no accidents so far :) In fact, I think their diet is pretty good these days. Nice firm good colored poop. I think the mixture of home-made dog food and regular dog food is doing its job. *Self pat on the back*

Our next adventure would be to explore the new dog parks and dog meetups that are around the area. I think we’ll check one out today and hopefully post some pictures :)

Doggie Pate
icon1 rose | icon2 dog, event | icon4 05 21st, 2009| icon3No Comments »

img_5756editMy dog, Cocoa, almost became doggie pate today. Of course, I wasn’t there to witness the event, but TaeWoo retold the story to me.

He was walking the dogs this morning while I went to my yoga class. Cocoa happened to spot two huge St. Bernards at the park and decided he’d bolt towards them and start barking - as if he was trying to be macho. I cannot understand why he does this. I would totally question his behavior if only he could talk.

Anyhow, the tables turned and instead of Cocoa being a loud little dog barking away, the two St. Bernards starting chasing after him. Mind you, none of these dogs were leashed. Why? Because I guess we owners enjoy giving our dogs freedom at the risk of these types of things happening. I’m sure they don’t enjoy being tugged by the neck. Who would?

Back to the story. Since the two big dogs decided to chase Cocoa and show him who’s boss, the little guy freaked out (not so macho anymore) and started zooming across the big open field toward the streets. At this point my boyfriend was not only angry, but nervous as well. Several cars zipping by had to dodge Cocoa as he stood in the middle of the street. If he wasn’t black, I’d say his face would’ve turned completely white!

My other two dogs, Lucky and Brownie, were just chillin’ on the sidelines the whole time. Luckily, Cocoa was retrieved from the streets and the other two dogs were held back by their owners. Cocoa’s retribution? The same as the St. Bernards. A good woopin’ on the butt.

The positive? All dogs came home safely and both dog owners mutually apologized. I really really hope Cocoa learns his lesson today, but somehow I don’t think he has. Dogs are like children. They don’t really learn till it really hurts and although I could see that all my dogs came home safely, I was nervous while my boyfriend told me the story. Sighs….I don’t like doggie pate.

img_6000 After a week without seeing our three little trouble makers, we sped to my parent’s house after 5 hours of driving to give them hugs and kisses. They were uber excited! I’d say they were more excited than usual - probably a good 5-7 minutes straight of huffing, puffing, wagging, spinning, jumping and licking :)

They got kicked to the backyard for peeing in the house. If only they would learn! I guess my family is not very good at teaching them. Oh well, at least they had a whole backyard to share with the two pretty birds and turtles :) Plus, summer is near so I’m not as worried about the cold.

Alrighty folks, I’m going to go to my Parent’s house to give them a bath, wash their sheets, and bring them back to my apartment =P

Have a wuffy day!
